Absolutely fascinating thread! I have been crazy for these guys since birth but just recently discovered their names! (Back then, my buddies and I knew them all as simply 'rubber monsters'.) Now that I AM in-the-know, I am terribly excited to get right down to business and get these beauties back in my hands!
I seem to recall having some packaged monsters years back called 'Des Horribles', are these related somehow to the Topps/Basil Rubber Uglies? For that matter, I used to see these generic bag-o-monsters at a local grocery store, many years ago, that looked similar to the Uglies but were essentially all the same sculpt and made of a firmer rubber - ? (These guys looked pretty much like fluff bodies with googly eyes and pig snouts....I'd love to drum up a picture of them!)

Very similar to the ones I had, thank you! Great memories! (Though I could swear that some of the ones I had came on Spanish language cards, and were in vivid color...) Here are a few shots of my very modest gathering. The two guys in the middle I have had since the 70s, and the other three standing fellows are more modern uses of the old molds, they are far more stiff and not 'floppity' like the early versions. Note the subtle size/mold differences when comparing the pinkish spiny guys. The 'Finger Monsters' to the right and left are recent versions purchased by my wife at a novelty store and the weirdo in the middle I have owned since childhood. Sadly, he lost a hand in a great monster battle 30-40 years ago:

Here is my little green guy. He isn't very rubbery at all and is very tiny, but something about this little one really works for me, I can't quite put my finger on it: Suction cup belly:

Greetings! I'm new to the site and was wondering if you could recommend any sources other than eBay for finding rubber uglies. I had many of them as a kid but of course they are long gone. I love the info and pictures here!! Thanks!

I love the info and pictures here!! Thanks! Glad that you find the site interesting. You might want to make some inquiries of the members on this site. Be specific on the type and age of the Uglies that your looking to collect. They were around in several decades and many different varieties. When did you get yours and what do you remember about them.

Here are some Topps Rubber Uglies recently added to the Astronit collection. The short profile red-eye Ralph is my first one. New Additions by Astronit, on Flickr

Really beautiful pink rubber Dave. I'd love to find a Joel in this color scheme. Dave in Pink by Astronit, on Flickr
