Belle?

Can someone give me some info in this guy I picked up recently? I know the Saunders site show it as "Belle", but does anyone know exactly what it is? Is she one of the Horrible Reptiles series? That series seems to consist largely of critters very much based on the original Uglies, but this guy isn't really made of the soft squichy rubber. This one actually seems to be made of the same type of hard rubber/plastic as the PVC Animals(the hard rubber ones, of course!). Since she has kind of a garish paint job, is this a later reissue of the figure? This is the first one I have come across, but I see pics of her alot in other folks' collections (as well as in the banner at the top of the home page here), but I do not know if earlier versions were soft rubber or is they all are this harder rubber stuff. Thanks!

Your Belle is indeed a Horrible Reptiles issue. I've also seen Belle in really funky later sets, but to be honest I can't recall if Belle was ever available in an earlier release. I'd guess she first appeared probably around the same time as Don? I only own one Belle, she's a Horrible Reptile in green base rubber.

The thing that made me wonder if this one is a later issue is cuz of the funky coloring and (more importantly), the fact she is made of the hard "PVC Animals" rubber rather than the soft, rather flimsy rubber of the other Horrible Reptiles guys. Also, did Horrible Reptiles make a Florence clone? I know Don seems to have a rather close resemblence to Florence, and I guess is the "Florence" HR representative, but I recently picked up a Florence that is pretty flimsy rubber with a hollow mouth (unlike the pretty solid rubber mouth insides of the Uglies Florence), which enables one to squish her body from top of her head to bottom (the Uglies Florences I have all are much firmer rubber). Also, her legs pretty much dangle limply when she is picked up, and the Uglies Florences (at least early ones) have firmer legs that do not dangle as much. In all other respects she is about the same as the Uglies Flo, except slightly more dainty (smaller) and has more prominent spiky projections above the eyes. It seem most the Horrible Reptiles are "similar" to the Uglies they were obviously based on, but with differences (the eyes on the HR Iris on the sides of the head rather than back & front, Don with "regular" back legs instead of the forked apendages of Florence, Paula's differences from Joel, etc.), and this flimsy Florence seem too close to the Uglies Flo for the HR series.....it's probably just a later issue of Flo I guess. I am trying to find out a bit more about the animals in the Horrible Reptiles series.....how many were made, who made them, etc. I'm sure one of you hard-core Rubber Uglies collectors have a much better handle on them than I! :-)

Your Florence sounds cool, I'd love to see pics. I have about 3 Florences that have a hollow mouth that has a depth to about right behind her front legs, but not far enough that I can squish her entire body like a Paula. I've never seen a Horrible Reptiles Florence, yours is probably from the 70s.
Also, as far as I know the Horrible Reptiles were made by Brabo, but I have no clue who made the really old original P.V.C. Animals.
