Hi Guys! Dustin here, I have a friend who sent me these photos and asked me if I could find out more information about them, he recently acquired them for his collection... if anything I thought you all could enjoy the pics although I couldnt figure out how to add this pic to the main post section. (youll have to click on the image to view it) I was just wondering if anyone could please offer up some info on this Rubber Ugly collection, are these official or bootleg? is this a complete set? is one character more rare than others? do they have names? What year are they from? etc. THANKS IN ADVANCE Attachments:

Hey Dustin, You can tell your friend they are later versions, copies of the original Topps uglies creatures. They came out in vending machines (.25c) and novelty packaging called "Horrible Reptiles." They are all pretty standard and slightly more scarce than original Topps. Attached picture of the card. Attachments:

They appear to be bootlegs of the Horrible Reptiles line of toys. I notice they appear to be made of softer rubber and a few of them have a gumball charm loop on them. My best guess is that, yes, they're probably from the 80s. Those toys look wonderful BTW!

Seems to me that there are numerous auctions on eBay calling all sorts of rubber critters "Uglies" when they are either knock offs or newer re- molds. Sorry to act a little stuffy but I like the good old core group of Uglies from the late 60's. some of the senior members of this forum know what I mean. I do not object to any rubber monster figures but don't call them an Ugly if they simply are not one just to get people to look at an auction or to fool an honest or misinformed newer collector! As collectors we all had to start somewhere!

I agree with you 100% Gary. I often see those 25 cent Party City finger puppets advertised as vintage Rubber Uglies and crazy asking prices to boot! My personal favorites are the original early run molds. More detail and harder to find too.

Hey all! I am a new Rubber Ugly collector (I collect just about everything else, and decided to branch out into "Rubber Ugly" territory!). I only have 7-8 at the moment but planning on acquiring more soon. I have a question on names (Probably a pretty silly one): I am trying to ID some of the uglies I have and get a bit confused as to the names of some of them. For example, why is that one with the 4 tentacles and insect-y body & floating eyeball (sorry, I haven't found out how to post pics yet so I'll have to describe!) called variously "Iris", Paula". & "Joel"? I have also seen a few other names for it as well.
Also, the one with the two long arms w/ fingers, the squarish body, the 4 long legs which are divided at their ends, and protruding tongue, I've seen as both "Jennifer" and "Florence". Were the different names simply different versions of the same animal?
Thanks all! Jeff

Were the different names simply different versions of the same animal? Hey Jeff - welcome to the hoard. Rubber Ugly creatures with names are those that were designed from the Topps Ugly Stickers card series in 1965 and '74. They issued the same character creature in up to four different names. Early on in the development of this Rubber Ugly forum we decided to pick one name to describe our favorite creature. Therefore we use "Joel" as the name of the ugly monster with the popping eye issue. I prefer to call the other Florence but anyone familiar with Ugly stickers would also know who Jennifer is if she cam up in a conversation about Rubber Ugly creatures. Sadly, the world of rubber monsters is not so easily described. Most of the creatures you'll encounter do not come from the images on Topps cards and do not have any names attached to them. We usually just reffer to those by the name of their packaging; such as - " Slurfies"," Fighting Monsters", " P.V.C. Animals", or even more generically as " Finger Monsters." Regardless of the names we call each figure, the general consensus is that they are collected with enthusiasm and love for their ugliness. Hope you enjoy your quest to add more ugliness to your life. Please share pictures of your collection with us here. Astronit

I see those alot on eBay....the sellers have even sometimes given them names like the true Uglies ("Rupert", "Blinker", etc).
